The Next Mayor of Rock Hill, S.C.

JOHN GETTYS is a community and business leader who has dedicated his life to helping people and making a difference in our city.

JOHN GETTYS is a founding partner of the Morton & Gettys Law Firm in Rock Hill. He has been married to his wife, Christi, for the past 19 years, and they have three sons - Jack, Grier and Evan (ages 17 to 12). John and his family are active members of First Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church in Rock Hill where JOHN serves as an Elder.

JOHN earned his bachelor's degree from Erskine
College in 1991 and continued his education earning

his masters' degree in public administration and his

juris doctorate from the University of South Carolina

in 1995. Following graduation from law school,

JOHN began his private practice with the law firm

of Harrelson, Hayes & Guyton from 1996 to 2001,

becoming a partner with the firm in 2000, before

leaving to start his own firm in 2001.

JOHN GETTYS is no stranger to hard work and
serving the public. He was first elected to represent
Rock Hill City Council District 4 in 2002 and re-elected
in October 2005 with more than 90% of the vote.
Four years later, JOHN did not run for re-election to City Council and dedicated more time to his family and his growing law firm. However, after serving on Council, John has continued to serve the people's interest by regularly donating his time, talent and resources to a number of non-profit groups and community organizations.

Among his commitments, JOHN GETTYS presently serves as chairman of Rock Hill's Sports Commission since 2012; as a member of the local South State Bank Advisory Board since 2015; and as a board member of the Jeffrey Lee Williams Foundation. JOHN recently completed his term as chair of the Football Committee at South Pointe High School and his term as a member of the 2017 Pennies for Progress Commission.

JOHN previously served on the board and as president of the Early Learning Partnership; was a member of the Rock Hill School District 3 Bond Committee; South Carolina Human Affairs Commission; Boy Scouts of America, Palmetto Council District Chairman; Minority Scholarship Foundation Board Member; Member and Chairman of the Rock Hill No Room for Racism Board and member and former President of the Rock Hill Rotary Club among other clubs and organizations.

JOHN is honored to have been a member of the Liberty Fellowship Class of 2009 and a 2017 participant in the Diversity Leadership Initiative of the Riley Institute at Furman University.

JOHN GETTYS has also been recognized locally for his leadership being named a recipient of the Dream Keeper Award from Rock Hill's Martin Luther King Task Force, a recipient of the Deacon Service Award at First ARP Church, and a Paul Harris Fellow by the Rock Hill Rotary Club. He was also a 2017 winner of the Community Service Merit Award from the Come See Me Board of Directors.

With Doug Echols' retirement, JOHN GETTYS remains as dedicated as ever to the City of Rock Hill and is ready to work for all citizens as our next MAYOR. His prior service on Council coupled with his long-standing commitment to our city and his experience as a job creator make him the best candidate to hit the ground running and work for us!
